An Original Television Series Developed for HBO

At a fading Houston comedy club, four comedians — some aspiring, others fallen — chase success, redemption and a reason to keep getting back onstage. Angie is a gifted but self-destructive comic struggling with addiction and fatherhood. Nicole discovers she is pregnant just as her career begins gaining momentum. Matthew is a devout Christian, devoted family man and painfully unfunny performer whose moral certainty conceals the corruption inside his own home. Presiding over them is Bob Cusomano, a disgraced former television star who walked away from fame after a near-death encounter in which God charged him with a deceptively simple mission: find the goodness in people.

Set within the profane, competitive and deeply dysfunctional world of stand-up comedy, THE LIGHT is a darkly comic ensemble drama about damaged people who make strangers laugh while their own lives fall apart.

Daniel Shafer, Tobey Maguire and Mark Ross developed the original one-hour series with co-creators Mike Young and Chris D’Arienzo (ROCK OF AGES) and set up the project at HBO.
