In 1987 Los Angeles, a small-town girl and an aspiring rocker fall in love while chasing stardom on the Sunset Strip. Their romance becomes entwined with the fate of the legendary Bourbon Room as a moral crusade threatens to shut it down and a make-or-break appearance by decadent superstar Stacee Jaxx offers its last hope — all set to the defining anthems of the 1980s.

Starring Academy Award nominees Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige and Bryan Cranston, Academy Award winner Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand and Malin Åkerman.

Directed by Adam Shankman from a screenplay by Justin Theroux (IRON MAN 2, TROPIC THUNDER), Chris D’Arienzo and Allan Loeb, based on D’Arienzo’s hit Broadway musical, which received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.

Shafer and Tobey Maguire discovered ROCK OF AGES through their previous work with D’Arienzo and partnered with stage producer Matthew Weaver to sell the screen rights to New Line Cinema in a competitive auction. Shafer received a co-producer credit on the finished film for his role in originating the screen adaptation.

Released theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures in 2012.

Featuring cast performances of songs by Journey, Guns N’ Roses, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and Foreigner, the soundtrack reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Soundtracks chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200. It became the second-best-selling soundtrack album of 2012 in the United States and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
